1967-2023
Samuel “Sammy” Bernardini, a resident of Old Forge, died Monday December 4, 2023 at Geisinger CMC shortly after being admitted.
Born in Pittston, he was the son of Sam Bernardini, Dunmore and the late Carol M. Chapla Bernardini and was a graduate of Old Forge High School. Sammy was a hardworking and talented businessman who along with his parents owned Imperial Bakery in West Scranton serving the restaurant industry since 1985. By his nature, his customers became his friends along the way.
In addition to his father, Sammy is survived by his sister Brenda Rignanesi and her husband William Wychowanec, formerly of Mayfield and now Daytona Beach, FL, his niece Robyn Rignanesi and her partner Corey Benfer, Lancaster; nephew Ryan Rignanesi and wife Jessica Cupano, Old Forge; great-nieces Ellie and Isla Rignanesi, Old Forge; aunts, uncles, cousins and his many friends.
Sammy lived his life to the fullest. He had a deep love for music, animals, family and friends. He lit up every room he walked into. Each interaction with Sammy guaranteed a joke that ended in an arguably bad pun and uncontrollable laughter. He was the best person to engage in deep conversation. Anyone who met Sammy was taught to have a better appreciation and understanding of life. And if you were really lucky, a delicious recipe. Sammy’s stories, kindness and glow will forever be ingrained in the hearts of everyone that knew him.
A celebration of Sammy’s life will be scheduled in the near future. In keeping with Sammy’s wishes he was cremated and internment will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements entrusted to the Donahue Funeral Home, 303 S Main Ave., Scranton, PA 18504. In honor of his memory, donations will be accepted at St. Cats and Dogs of Nay Aug Zoo, c/o 1900 E Gibson St., Scranton, PA 18510.
