Lourdes Gilboy Mullen, 102, formerly of West Scranton, died Saturday at St. Mary’s Villa after a short illness. She and her husband, Walter R. Mullen, celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary prior to his passing March 17, 2013.
Born in North Scranton, she was the daughter of the late James and Bertha O’Malley Gilboy and a graduate of Holy Rosary High School. Prior to marriage, she enjoyed working for the Globe Store, Scranton.
Lourdes was a faithful parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church, Scranton. Above all, Lourdes loved and cared for her family, was a superb seamstress and quilt maker. Her quilts were given and enjoyed over the years by many family members and friends. Her family and friends will dearly miss her.
Lourdes is survived by daughters, Mary Lourdes Mullen and Anne Mullen, Scranton; and Tish Destree, Steve Destree, Virginia Beach, Va.; her son, Robert Mullen and his wife, Sharon, Jamison, Pa.; grandchildren, Sean Mullen, Kate Destree; Nathan Destree and wife, Kala; great-grandchild, Jovie Destree; several nephews and a niece. In addition to her husband and parents, her sisters, Mary Kapp and Frances Horner, preceded her in death.
The Rev. Richard Fox will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, IHM Chapel, 1605 Oram St., Scranton, PA 18504. The family will greet friends at the chapel from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service with interment immediately following in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
On behalf of Lourdes and family, they would like to offer their sincerest appreciation for all the wonderful care provided by the special nurses and staff of St. Mary’s Villa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lourdes name to St. Patrick’s Food Pantry, 1403 Jackson St., Scranton, PA 18504.
