1953-2024
Jim and his beloved wife and caregiver Lisa Rinaldi Sabatell celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary on July 25, 2024. Born in Dunmore, Jim was the son of the late James and Marie Gagliardi Sabatell and a graduate of South Catholic HS, Class of 1971.
A man of faith, Jim was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, his life was characterized by his unabated love for his family which he adored and generously shared his joy for living. Jim had a lifelong passion for bowling. He bowled in numerous leagues and tournaments, at one point he was on the Pro bowling circuit. His achievements included rolling 49 300 games, 29 800 series and a high series of 850. Jim always enjoyed helping bowlers to learn and love the game. He was an auto mechanic by trade who also loved working on and customizing cars, as well as drag racing them in his younger years.
In addition his wife Lisa, Jim leaves his son James Sabatell, Taylor; his daughter Ashley Sabatell, Philadelphia; a sister and brother; a sister-in-law Karen Bieniecki and her husband Bob, Jefferson Twp.; brothers-in-law Michael Rinaldi, Jefferson Twp., William Rinaldi and wife Susan and Mark Rinaldi, of Scranton. He had several nieces and nephews, as well as a great niece and nephew. Jim was preceded in death by his sister Diane Shull and sister-in-law Kelly Rinaldi.
A Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Rev. Jeffery D. Tudgay, will be held on Saturday November 30th at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 801 Taylor Avenue, Scranton with the family greeting friends from 9:00 AM until the time of service. In keeping with Jim’s wish he was cremated and interment will follow at the pleasure of the family.
