Elizabeth Oliver Strong, Hummelstown PA, formerly of Scranton, died Monday, September 14, 2026, at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. Liz will always be remembered for her wit, strength, resilience and above all her deep love for her children and grandchildren. Liz was a constant presence in her grandchildren’s lives, never missing a game and always cheering them on with love and pride.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Margaret Chase Oliver, graduated from Central High School (1969) and Marywood University (1973) and resided in Hummelstown, PA since 2016. Prior to retirement, Liz was an Educational Aide in the Abington Heights School District for more than 25 years.
Liz is survived by daughters, Kristin Lindsay and her husband Ben, Hummelstown, PA and Lauren Smith and her husband Dan, Odessa, FL and her son, John Strong and his wife, Kristen, Clarks Summit, PA and her beloved grandchildren, Grace and Owen Lindsay, Preston, Connor and Charlotte Smith and Patrick and Garrett Strong. In addition, several grand dogs, Lily, George, Maui, Sandy and Kai.
She is also survived by her sisters, Patricia Lane and husband, Stephen, Fort Myers, FL; Marylou Badick and her husband, Robert, Scranton; Margaret (Peggy) Harrison, Kennesaw, GA; Nancy Conlon and her husband, Greg, Ardmore, PA.; Christine Shean and her husband, Timothy, Scranton; and her brother, Francis Oliver Jr. and his wife, Mary, Greenwood, IN. Liz was also an adored aunt of 15 nieces and nephews and 30 great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by several cousins.
In addition to her parents, Liz was predeceased by her sister Joan Oliver Tiernan and her brother James (Chuck) Oliver, her nephew Stephen Lane Jr, her niece Katie Badick, and her cousin Mary Ellen Brocavich.
In keeping with her wishes, a blessing service and celebration of Liz’s life will be held at the Donahue Funeral Home, 303 S. Main Ave., Scranton, PA, (scrantonfuneralservices.com) Sunday, September 20, 2026, with visitation from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, the blessing service will be held at 3:30 PM with Rev. Richard Fox officiating. Internment at Cathedral Cemetery will be private at the discretion of the family.
