Carolyn Ann Jones Timlin

September 6th, 2023

With deepest sorrow, the family announces the passing of Carolyn Jones Timlin on Sept 6, 2023. Carolyn’s life ended after a 2 year battle with cancer. She is preceded in death by the love of her life, James P. Timlin, her husband, friend and soul mate of 34 years. Carolyn was born in Taylor PA, the daughter of the late John and Caroline Jones. She graduated from Riverside High School class of ’67.

Carolyn was all about family, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, brothers and “The Sisters”. Carolyn was a talented crocheter, there was never a shortage of crocheted blankets, hats, and scarves. She made the most beautiful wreaths for every door and window for every season and holiday. She and her sisters were founding members of the “Thursday Morning Breakfast Club”. Along with the sisters, close relatives and great friends, there were enough stories, gossip, and laughs to light up Lucca’s Restaurant. She enjoyed traveling and taking mini vacations, especially to her “happy place” Las Vegas. Anywhere family wanted to go, Carolyn was always up for the trip.

Carolyn had a great work ethic beginning with her first job selling candy at the Thomas Theater; to cashier at the Acme market; to Credit Manager at the Times Tribune; then as an airline attendant and Resource Coordinator for United airlines. Throughout her careers she left a trail of friends that came to know and love her.

Surviving is her daughter and caretaker Sherri Hoban of Scranton; daughter Susan Stevens and husband Paul of Moosic; and son James Timlin and wife Carrie, of Scott Township; Brothers Richard Jones, Newton Ransom; David Jones and wife Yvette, Nicholson; sisters Jane Stevens and husband Bill, Scranton; Cindy Strenkoski and husband Joe, Taylor; and Judy Malinosky and husband Bob, Knoxville, TN; eight grandchildren: Andrew, Alex and Abigail Hoban; Nicholas and Molly Benzeleski; James, Riley and Robert Timlin; three great grandchildren: Noah and Niles Benzeleski, Bennett McAlarney; several nieces and nephews; and her many lifelong friends.

Carolyn passed surrounded by family and love. She will be remembered for her strong family values, humor, crafts, and her smile that would make a stranger feel at home. She is gone from our sights, but never from our hearts.

Family will receive friends at the Donahue Funeral Home, 303 S. Main Ave., Scranton PA 18504 on Sunday, September 10th from 4pm to 7 pm and Monday, September 11th from 9 AM until Funeral service. Funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Ginger Daubenhauser and will be celebrated from the Funeral home on Monday the 11th at 10am. with internment immediately following at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Scranton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
