Joseph P. Iyoob

1947 – 2025

Joseph P Iyoob, 78, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on July 22.

Born in Carbondale and raised in Jermyn, Joe graduated from Mayfield High School in 1965 and proudly served in the National Guard for six years. He married the love of his life, Jo-ellen Polito Iyoob, and together they shared 58 years of love, laughter, and devotion.

Joe worked for many years at Mesko Glass and was known for his remarkable ability to fix almost anything—always learning, always lending a hand. A lifelong lover of music, he was a devoted friend and fan of The Poets and the Luongo Brothers, often helping them set up for shows. He also enjoyed cruising and was a proud season ticket holder for the Red Barons, rarely missing a game even being one of two people with his brother Bob in the stands.

But more than anything, Joe loved helping people. His warmth and generosity touched everyone he met. He is survived by his wife
Jo-ellen, sons Joseph (Carol) and Shawn, grandson Rocky, brother Bob, and two nieces.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Allied Hospice for their compassionate care. Donations can be made in Joe’s name to Allied Hospice. A private service was held in his honor at Donahue Funeral Home, 303 S. Main Ave., Scranton, PA 18504 [www.scrantonfuneralservices.com].

Joe lived a life rooted in love, loyalty and quiet strength – and those who knew him will carry his spirit forward always.
