Mary J. Tulaney Schwartz, 84, originally from West Scranton and later a resident of Delaware Towers at McDade apartments, died Wednesday at Marywood Heights after a brief illness.
Mary and her late husband George P. Schwartz celebrated 36 years of marriage prior to his death in 1997. Born in Scranton Mary was the daughter of the late Michael and Antoinette Tulaney, a dedicated member of St. Patrick’s Parish and a proud graduate of West Scranton HS, Class of 1958.
Widowed at fifty-eight, Mary’s remarkable strength enabled her to continue raising her family while working numerous jobs including as a clerk at Boscovs.
Mary was a special person who loved and cherished her family. Nothing could bring a bigger smile to her face than her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As a resident of Delaware Towers she enjoyed the company of her friends and the many activities including her rosary and prayer group, playing pokeno and bingo.
Mary is survived by her eight children: Leslie Schwartz Izak (Mark), Marianne Schwartz O’Boyle (Tim), Theresa Schwartz Whitman (Russel) and Evelyn Schwartz Decker (Joe), David, George (Ann), Chris (Maria) and Edward (Anita); 16 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by Sisters Annette Tulaney Symosh and Ann Tulaney McConnell and brothers Sarkis and Edward Tulaney.
Mary’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the 3rd Floor staff at Marywood Heights for their kind compassionate care and support.
The Family will greet friends at the Donahue Funeral Home, 303 South Main Avenue, Scranton on Sunday from 4 to 6 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be officiated by Father Richard Fox on Monday at 10 AM at St. Patrick’s IHM Chapel, Oram Street, Scranton, PA with internment immediately following at Cathedral Cemetery. Those planning on attending the Mass are requested to proceed directly to the Church.
